Major Crypto Exchanges Were Offline As Cloudflare Suffers Another Outage Cloudflare’s web infrastructure platform suffered another major outage today. It caused half the Internet to go down, crippling major communication platforms, crypto exchanges, and Discord, among others.

Major Crypto Exchanges went offline

During the Cloudflare outage, which lasted for 25 minutes, crypto users who tried to access the websites of service providers like FTX, Bitfinex, CoinMarketCap, and OKX, were met with a “500 Internal Server Error” message. Immediately after the affected exchanges noticed the issue, they informed users about it via Twitter, with OKX’s CEO, Jay Hao, asking if there is any web3 alternative to prevent such from happening in the future.

FTX also informed its users about the outage, pointing out that its markets remain available in post only mode.

The Cloudflare outage didn’t affect Binance, one of the few crypto exchanges. When asked why Binance was still up and running during the downtime, the company’s CEO Changpeng Zhao said the exchange had a redundant setup to prevent such incidents.

It’s not the first time

Cloudflare has now restored its servers and users can access the affected cryptocurrency exchange websites. Although the web infrastructure platform didn’t disclose the cause of the outage, the company said it would keep monitoring the results. However, this isn’t the first time Cloudflare has suffered an outage that affected crypto websites. Bitfinex and other major websites were briefly halted in August 2020 by another similar incident. Last week, Bitfinex reported a temporary downtime that had affected some websites around the globe.

Cloudflare will Set Ethereum Validator Nodes

Cloudflare announced support for Ethereum Gateway recently. This will allow users to read and/or write access to Ethereum networks without the need to install any software. The web infrastructure platform also plans to launch a fully stake ETH validator node in the coming months to support Ethereum’s POS transition.
