NCC reiterates its commitment to promote Workforce Efficiency and Capacity Building Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has reiterated its commitment to professionalizing its workforce, strengthening collaborations with strategic partners like the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and improving operational efficiency. While receiving a delegation headed by Jude Iheanacho (Acting Registrar, CEO of NIM), Prof. Umar Danbatta stated these remarks while he was accompanied by Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), of NCC. He also paid a courtesy call to the NCC Head office. EVC representative Usman Malah, Director, Human Capital and Administration, stated that the Commission puts a lot of emphasis on capacity building and is currently implementing policies to achieve this goal.

Malah also said that it was in the Commission’s best interest to deepen its collaboration with NIM, through strategic partnering, so that NCC can improve organisational efficiency and regulatory excellence. Speaking further, Malah declared that the Commission’s faith in the transformational capacity of skilled human resources is demonstrated by the Commission’s support to staff who are members of the Institute.

The support includes prompt payment of membership fees for its staff; and subscription to and participation in NIM’s mandatory capacity building programmes for members. Malah committed to making recommendations to the Management of Commission in order to take further steps in consolidating the strategic relationship. These include setting up an inter-agency cooperation committee consisting of representatives from both the two bodies. In his response, Iheanacho praised NCC’s positive contribution to the telecoms sector. He also stated that a highly-skilled and professional workforce was necessary to manage the highly competitive and intellectual world of telecommunications.

Ihenacho stated that the NCC is an excellent public sector institution known for its proactive, inclusive engagement with all stakeholders in telecoms. NIM Chief Executive acknowledged that strategic partnership was necessary between the two organizations. He also stated that NIM had a number of emerging upskilling programs that would ensure that Nigeria is in line with global trends. Iheanacho also told the Commission that programs like the Mandatory Continuing Professional Education Programme and Continuing Learning and Development Programmes were examples of current management issues that NCC can use to increase workplace efficiency. Although the Nigerian Institute of Management was founded in 1961, the enabling Act, The Nigerian Institute of Management Establishment Act was adopted by the National Assembly on the 19th of July 2003. The institute’s goals include developing good management, professionalizing managing and improving management in Nigeria. The interaction and reception took place at NCC Conference Hall. Ibrahim Aliyu, Head of Administration at NCC was present. Safiya Jiji, Head of Human Capital was represented by Folorunso Meele, Principal Manager at the Human Capital Department.
